Growth Letter #3
I’m just back from a wonderful one-week break.
I went with my hubby and kids to London, Siracusa in Sicily, and Lake Como and we all came back happy and refreshed!
Thank you to everyone who participate in the survey I sent out recently. This week and next, I’ll be sending personal emails to everyone - one by one and announce the winner.
The winner will get a free 90min consultancy call and a one-pager marketing plan!
First a bit about me…
Hi, I’m Ro 👋
Over the past decade, I’ve been heading marketing departments, creating & executing ambitious strategies, while also leading, growing, and mentoring marketing teams.
I recently started my consultancy business and I want to take you on my journey where I openly and honestly share my ups and downs, failures and successes.
I’m all about marketing, business & personal growth.
Growth is my thing - and if it’s your thing too, I’m sure you’ll enjoy these letters.
👩💼 1. MY THIRD MONTH IN BUSINESS
The bad: I am pushing myself hard this year and want to go wayyy outside my comfort zone. The cost? I often don’t have enough time to do everything I want.
The good: Deciding my work hours. I’m just back from a week in Sicily. My kids had a school break and we decided to go very last minute. It wasn’t exactly a holiday as I was still working, but the beauty of working for yourself is that you can decide your hours - and this, my friend, is priceless!
Never in my life have I enjoyed such flexibility!
The wonderful: Working with my ideal clients! I like to practice what I preach. One of the things I do in my consultancy is to help my clients understand who is their ideal client and how/where to find them.
You can NOT grow and scale a business you love if you’re not attracting your ideal clients. So the same exercise I do with my clients to do find their ideal clients, I did with myself.
Some of the things I heard from my clients recently:
”Hiring you was my best business decision ever”
”You removed overwhelm from my life”
If you’re not working with your ideal client - something is not right in your business strategy - maybe something I can help you with? 😊
👀 2. MY VISION
In my last newsletter, I mentioned I want to “retire” when I turn 50. I want to be clearer on what this actually means…
What retiring in 8 years means to me:
That I have my money working for me - I don't have to work for my money
What retirement doesn't mean to me:
Drink cocktails on a beach or watch TV all day (I'll never be this person)
📅 3. MARKETING PLAN
STEP ONE: WHERE ARE YOU GOING AND WHY?
Do you know where you’re heading with your business?
See the “where” as your destination.
How big do you want to grow?
Do you want to be a solopreneur or do you want to have a team?
Do you want grow to international markets? Or do you want to build a local business?
Do you know why you’re doing this (launching your business, creating a new product, service, etc)?
See the “why” as the car that will drive you and others to that destination.
If there’s no strong purpose - you’ll quickly run out of power, find excuses and lose your motivation - and alienate the ones around you along the way.
Your why should never be the money.
Your why should inspire and move people.
Why is this important?
This will determine everything else in your strategy. I’ll figure out as I go won’t cut it and won’t work.
Knowing the “destination” of your business will help you with a lot of decisions from the start and to focus on what really matters. This will save you a lot of time, energy and money!
Knowing the why will help you when things get tough. You just need to remember why you started in the first place.
The other bonus? It will make people follow you in your vision - that goes for clients and teams.
If you don’t know where you’re going and why it will be very hard to lay a roadmap to there to your “destination”.
So do this exercise: where are you going and why?
In March I’ll cover Step 2: Your North Star Metric.
🚀 4. RESOURCES
I had to pick the one that literally EVERYONE is talking about ChatGPT.
Whenever I opened LinkedIn in January, most posts referred to this app! It’s in social media, the news, and all over the web.
If you haven’t heard of or given it a go yet - ChatGPT is a large language model that can generate human-like text, trained on a massive dataset of written works from the internet. And yes, it’s free (for now at least!).
For now, I'm using it as a way to generate content ideas.
The future is here and we all need to get used to living with AI!
Are you ready for it?
