I've reinvented myself more times than I can count.
At 26 I moved from Portugal to Dublin with one night booked in a hostel. No friends. No family. No job. Just a promise to myself that I'd figure it out.
I did.
A decade in marketing followed — leading departments, building teams from scratch, running campaigns for databases of over a million accounts. Good work. Real results. And eventually, that familiar feeling: I've hit the ceiling. What's next?
So my husband and I quit our jobs, gave up our apartment, and spent 9 months travelling the world. In 2011, before remote work was a thing people talked about, we decided it had to be possible to live somewhere sunny and work for a northern European company. We made it happen.
Then came the scariest move of all. Quitting my last job to start my own business — with kids depending on me, a mortgage to think about, and absolutely no guarantee it would work. I wasn't sure it would. I did it anyway.
Do it scared became my mantra. Still is.
I've been reinventing myself ever since. Which is exactly why I know what it actually takes — not in theory, but in the terrifying, exciting, what-am-I-doing reality of it.
Today I run The GYM, work as a fractional CMO, and coach alongside Sigrun — one of the world's leading business mentors — supporting a program of 400+ women. I've seen, up close and at scale, what blocks smart women from moving forward. And I know what breaks the pattern.
